BYU lacrosse: Cougars advance to semifinals

Press ReleaseDENVER, Colo. -- BYU's No. 2 seeded Cougars advanced to the MCLA national tournament semifinals with a hard-fought 9-8 win over a determined Florida State squad.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 first quarter lead, but the second quarter belonged to FSU. A literal last-second goal—officially scored at the 0:00 mark as time expired—brought FSU to within one at 4-3 at the half.

In the third, FSU tied the score at 4-4, but BYU came back with four straight to pull ahead 8-4 with just over six minutes to play. Although BYU seemed in control of the game, FSU battled back with three goals to trail by a single goal with 1:39 remaining.

BYU junior Elliot Grow (Highland High, UT) scored BYU's final goal—Grow's third of the game—at the 0:43 mark. FSU had one last gasp, scoring once more with one second to play bringing the final score to BYU 9 FSU 8.

BYU advances to Friday's semifinals to face No. 3 seed Chapman. The game will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports Atlantic on Friday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. MDT.
