OGDEN — Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped by fire at a large apartment complex in Ogden.
The woman called 911 around 1:30 a.m. after noticing fire in the hallway outside her apartment at 3290 Van Buren Ave. Deputy Fire Chief Chad Tucker said when firefighters arrived, they found smoke throughout the building and fire in a stairwell next to the caller's apartment.
Emergency dispatchers had told the woman to go to the window and wait for rescue crews.
"Our fire crews came in through the window. By that time, another crew was able to get the fire knocked down and go to the door," Tucker explained.
Fire crews and police officers evacuated 24 apartments. Tenants from all but two units have been allowed to return.
Investigators said the fire began with an electrical problem and caused an estimated $25,000 in damages.
No injuries were reported.
