MAGNA — Unified police say arrest warrants have been issued for two juveniles in connection with a shooting at a fast-food restaurant earlier this month.
On Nov. 8, shots were fired from a vehicle into a Wendy's restaurant at 3490 S. 8000 West. One shot shattered a front window, while a bullet hole could be seen in a second window. There were several people inside the restaurant at the time.
Police believe the gunmen were targeting a specific individual inside the restaurant. No one was injured in the shooting. Police recovered a black handgun on the sidewalk near 3255 S. 7615 West.
A witness was able to get a license plate number as the suspects drove away, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in 3rd District Court. Investigators were already familiar with the vehicle, "because it was possibly involved in a prior shooting case," the warrant states.
Police set up surveillance on the address the vehicle was registered to. When two men showed up, officers took them to a police station for questioning. The men were eventually released and police said they were no longer suspects.
However, one of the men's younger brothers had "sent him a message on Facebook saying that he needed to go pick up the (car) and take it home because something bad had happened," according to the affidavit.
The men picked up the vehicle near 7245 W. 3500 South. Detectives seized the car and processed it for evidence.
A shell casing similar to the type found outside the Wendy's was recovered from the car, according to the warrant. A gun holster was also found in the car, as well as a receipt for another fast-food restaurant close to the Wendy's from the same day.
Police have not released any information about the two juveniles they are looking for, except to say they know who they are.
