SALT LAKE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT — Friends and family gave a big welcome home Saturday to 14 Utah National Guard soldiers following a 12-month deployment. Sgt. Nicholas Gines was thrilled to see his young daughter.
"When I left she was barely speaking and walking and now she's here walking around," Sgt. Gines said. "It's really good to see the family."
The soldiers are with the Utah Army National Guard's 141st and 142nd military intelligence battalions. They arrived from overseas to Fort Hood, Texas, last week but finally reunited Saturday with their families. The soldiers provided critical Arabic language support to the US Central Command during their deployment.
