SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The University of Utah is celebrating the expansion of a medical rehabilitation center.

The Rehabilitation Center at University of Utah Hospital has 38 beds, up from 28 before renovations, with private and double-occupancy rooms for people recovering from brain injuries and neurological disorders.

The extra space will allow families to participate in the care of their loved ones on a 24-hour basis.

Other improvements include overhead lift systems in many patient rooms that can safely move patients into and out of their beds.

University of Utah Hospital administrators and staff members held an open house with others on Tuesday.
