SALT LAKE CITY — State Street has reopened after a car hit a building and damaged a natural gas line early Friday, officials said.
The driver of a car lost control possibly due to a tire that popped, sending the car into Glens Keys, Lock and Safe at 1147 S. State about 1 a.m., according to the Salt Lake Fire Department. The impact ruptured a natural gas line.
The driver was treated on scene for minor injuries and passed a DUI test, fire officials said.
State Street was closed from 900 South to 1300 South while crews dug up the street to access and repair the gas leak. As of 9 a.m., the road has reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
Several nearby businesses were evacuated, but evacuation orders were lifted about 7:30 a.m., the fire department said.
