SALT LAKE CITY — Monday's Pioneer Day celebrations got off to a running start for those who participated in the 42nd annual Deseret News Marathon and 10K races.
The weather was perfect as the runners crossed through the finish line at Liberty Park. A team from KSL News was among them.
"It was a good race," reporter Jennifer Stagg said. "It was nice and downhill, and it was nice to see everyone from KSL on the course. It was a nice run."
Jen and the rest of the KSL Team ran the 10K.
Many athletes also took part in a new event: the Read Today 5K. Ronald McDonald led the walk, and then led the finishers to ice cream.
More than 100 kids and their families got some exercise, a medal and a good reminder.
"It's going to help kids remember reading is fun," said Read Today's Lizzy Johnson. "That's what we're here all about: providing incentives and opportunities to have a good time."
The fun continues. Every student who reads 100 minutes this week gets a free Iceberg shake. Register and log your minutes at www.readtoday.com.
