VIRGIN, Washington County — Parts of Zion National Park were listed in an evacuation warning due to a fire Wednesday night but were removed later on.

The fire started in the Kolob Smith Mesa area, according to a WashCo Safety Facebook post.

The fire, now dubbed as the Mesa Fire, was at six acres in size as of 7 p.m., according to the Hurricane Fire Department.

Washington County emergency services advised people to use Genasys Protect to keep up to date on evacuations, according to the Hurricane Fire Department. As of 10 p.m., Zion National Park was no longer part of the area with evacuation warnings, according to Genasys.

The Genasys website advised people to prepare to leave in case they are asked to evacuate the area. One area near the Mesa Fire was still under an evacuation warning at 10 p.m.

An update on the Genasys website said the fire's progression had stopped by 10 p.m.

Earlier in the day, several areas near the fire were placed under set, or yellow status out of an abundance of caution, according to the Hurricane Fire Department.

WashCo Safety's post said "yellow" or "set" status as a warning means to stay alert, be prepared to leave and ready to go if asked to do so. "Green" or "ready" is for general preparedness, while "red" or "go" means it's time to leave the area immediately.

The Hurricane Fire Department said fire resources were also being provided from the State of Utah and Zion National Park.

There was no word yet on how the fire started.
