BEAVER — A semi-truck driver has been arrested for allegedly hitting another semi on the highway on purpose.

Abdulkarim Mohamed Hassan, 47, was booked into the Beaver County Jail late Thursday for investigation of two counts of aggravated assault. At least one of those counts comes with a suggested road rage penalty enhancement if convicted, according to a police booking affidavit.

On Thursday, just before 10 p.m., the Utah Highway Patrol responded to a possible road rage involving two semitrucks that "had collided while traveling on the interstate," according to a police booking affidavit.

Both vehicles were located at the Flying J in Beaver. A UHP trooper determined through video evidence and from talking to the drivers that "the driver of the red Freightliner semi intentionally collided with and pushed the white Freightliner semi out of their established lane of travel. This caused a significant risk of serious bodily injury or death to both occupants of the white semi truck. The driver of the red truck made multiple statements that he intentionally used his vehicle to damage the other vehicle involved in an attempt to intimidate and scare the other driver," the affidavit states.

Hassan "also made statements of little recognition or understanding of the severity of the offenses. It appeared that the subject did not have a desire to take responsibility for his actions and the consequences that could have followed due to his reckless behavior," the trooper wrote in the affidavit.

Additional information on a possible motive and the extent of damage to both vehicles was not immediately available.
