SOUTH JORDAN — A South Jordan man was arrested Sunday and accused of stabbing his girlfriend.
Brandon Jay Benioh, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted murder, aggravated assault and public intoxication.
The investigation began early Sunday when a woman called 911 while driving herself to the hospital and told police that she and Benioh "got into a fight in their shared apartment and he attempted to stab her in the legs with a knife," a police booking affidavit states.
An officer who went to the hospital found the woman "outside the emergency room doors of the hospital, leaning against her car and screaming in pain. I approached the female who collapsed onto the ground still in pain and claiming Brandon had stabbed her multiple times in the legs," according to the affidavit.
The officer observed six stab wounds on the woman's legs, the arrest report says. She also told investigators that Benioh choked her.
"The victim explained that Brandon began choking the victim with both of his hands around her neck, the victim stated she began to black out and could not breathe when Brandon was choking her. The victim kicked at Brandon to get free from his grip. Brandon then stood up and retrieved a knife from the kitchen, and started back toward the victim, stating, 'I am going to jail for murder,' and began to stab the victim," the affidavit alleges.
Police located Benioh and arrested him.
