SALT LAKE CITY — Two teens were injured, and one was hospitalized, after police say they were "experimenting" with explosive materials near Cedar City Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the scene just west of Cedar City in the Desert Mount area on a report of a traumatic injury about 5:50 p.m., the Iron County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

Four teens were "experimenting" with "explosive target material," when some of it detonated early, the sheriff's office said. The explosion injured two teens, sending one to the hospital via Life Flight with serious injuries. The other teen sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics who responded to the scene.
