CASTLE VALLEY, Grand County — A paraglider was seriously injured Monday after launching from Castleton Tower and crashing into "difficult terrain" below, officials said.

Shortly before 4 p.m., the paraglider launched from the rock formation located just east of Castle Valley and soon crashed, according to a post on the Grand County EMS Facebook page.

The Grand County Search and Rescue team worked for hours to rescue the paraglider, who was treated by Grand County EMS and later flown by medical helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, officials said.

Details of the patient's injuries were not available Monday night. Emergency officials did not release the patient's name or gender.
