WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Valley man, 38, was shot in the stomach Saturday in what police believe to be a gang-related incident.
Multiple shots were fired as the man exited a home at 3826 S. 7080 West around 8:30 p.m., West Valley Police Lt. Michael Coleman said. Four to five shots were fired, one of them striking the alleged victim in the stomach.
The man was flown to University Hospital in a medical helicopter, Coleman said. He was transported in serious condition, but is expected to survive.
The shooting is under investigation and police have not taken anyone into custody, though Coleman said they are pursuing various leads.
"We believe it to be gang- and drug-related," he said, adding that he is not sure what led to the shooting other than the fact that a conversation was taking place between the victim's brother and someone outside the home just before shots were fired.
