MONTICELLO, San Juan County — A man who was reported missing Thursday after he was last seen “antler shed hunting” is recovering at a Colorado hospital after he was rescued the following day, authorities said.
Jared Crane, whose age was not immediately released, was rescued Friday night after suffering broken bones and a punctured lung after falling “several feet,” according to a statement by San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge.
Crane was first reported missing Thursday after he was last seen in the Montezuma Creek area, about 14 miles southeast of Monticello, Eldridge said. The man’s vehicle was found near county road 146, but efforts to locate the missing man were suspended because of nightfall.
Deputies resumed efforts to find the man Friday morning and located what appeared to be his footprints. Crane was later located at the base of steep terrain in the area about 6 p.m. Friday after several flights in the area by Classic Air Medical and Department of Public Safety helicopters.
Crews were able to hoist Crane from the area Friday evening, and he was taken by ambulance to San Juan County Hospital in Monticello. He was later transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Authorities did not provide an update on Crane’s condition Monday.
