SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) -- A man critically injured in an explosion at a Utah County factory is improving and wants to get out of his hospital bed.
Tim Beardall is still on a respirator at University of Utah Hospital, but doctors are trying to get him to breathe on his own. His condition was upgraded to serious from critical.
Beardall and 10 other workers were injured Sunday night at Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe in Springville, near Provo. Officials believe the explosion occurred when water made contact with calcium carbide.
Beardall's wife, LaDonna Beardall, predicts her husband will be in the hospital for two weeks. The factory is closed while the blast is being investigated.
