SOUTH OGDEN — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found Monday.

Jesus Martinez Ramos, 44, was booked into the Weber County Jail Tuesday on suspicion of criminal homicide and obstruction of justice, according to jail records.

A woman walking through the area around 3700 S. Washington Blvd. Monday spotted what she believed was a body in nearby weeds and called police shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to South Ogden Police Lt. Dwight Ruth.

Arriving officers found a woman's body that had “obvious stab wounds,” a jail report stated.

The woman’s name was not immediately released. Ruth said the woman was 50 years old.

An officer at the scene quickly recognized the woman from previous reports at a nearby apartment complex where she lived with Ramos and another woman, whom police did not identify. Police responded to the apartment and Ramos and the unidentified woman agreed to speak with detectives, the report stated.

Ramos and the woman both waived their Miranda rights and Ramos “admitted to stabbing the deceased female victim several times, and later carrying her body to where it was later discovered,” police wrote in the jail report.

Police added that Ramos “admitted to cleaning up the crime scene and discarding all possible evidence in a dumpster in a close proximity to the house,” the report stated. Police also reported that Ramos told them he injured himself while stabbing the victim.

The woman who police interviewed told officers she saw Ramos stab the other woman and that Ramos had threatened to stab her if she “told on him,” the report stated.

Police said that a knife was recovered in the dumpster near the apartment, where Ramos told detectives he had discarded it.

Court records show Ramos has had multiple misdemeanor convictions spanning two decades. He pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault, amended to a Class A misdemeanor, in December 2015.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, each third-degree felony counts, in June 2017, but the charges were dropped without prejudice in April, according to court records.

Editor's note: This article was corrected to show that Ramos is 44 years old, not 45 years old.
