WEST POINT — A fire destroyed a $400,000 home in this Davis County city Wednesday.
The fire at 940 N. 5000 West started in the garage shortly before 4:50 p.m., said North Davis Fire District spokesman Mark Sessions.
A teenage boy was able to escape the home, which is located in a largely undeveloped area of West Point. Nobody else was inside at the time.
The home was engulfed in flames within minutes of firefighters arriving. Crews struggled with the blaze because they were drawing water from a water line that is only 4 inches thick, according to Sessions.
"That kind of decreased our fighting ability," he said.
Firefighters also struggled with dehydration in the hot temperatures.
"It’s taking a real large toll on the firefighters," Sessions said.
Some of the firefighters had also responded a short time earlier to a fire in Syracuse that also destroyed a home, Sessions said. Information about that fire was not immediately available.
The North Davis Fire District was assisted by the Weber Fire District and the Roy, Layton and Sunset fire departments.
The cause of the fire was unknown Wednesday, but there were no indications it was suspicious, Sessions said.
