STANSBURY PARK — The North Tooele Fire District said Chief Kevin Nunn has accepted a position as fire chief for the Estes Valley Fire Protection District in Estes Park, Colorado.
Nunn has served as fire chief for the district since April 2022, but has been firefighting for over 30 years. He joined Tooele's fire district after moving to Utah from Tennessee, according to a 2022 North Tooele Fire District Facebook post.
"I grew up in Indiana, but always felt my calling was elsewhere," Nunn said in the post, when he was first sworn in as fire chief. "I lived 15 years at the base of the Rockies along the Front Range of Colorado and then moved to the base of the Smokies along the Appalachian Trail."
Rick Pollock, chairman of the North Tooele Fire District Board of Directors, said it's been a privilege to serve alongside Nunn.
"Chief Nunn leaves behind a legacy of service, trust and excellence that will have a lasting impact on our district," Pollock said.
North Tooele Fire District Public Information Officer Jon Smith said, "Chief Nunn has been instrumental in our department's growth over the last four years and has been a great friend and mentor to all of us at the North Tooele Fire District."
Deputy Chief Jason Brown will take over as interim fire chief effective immediately as the fire district searches for a new chief. Nunn will start his job in Colorado on Monday.
"The North Tooele Fire District extends its sincere appreciation to Chief Nunn for his years of dedicated service and wishes him and his family continued success in Colorado," a statement from the Tooele fire district said. "His leadership, professionalism and commitment to the firefighters and residents of Tooele County have left a lasting mark on the organization, and he will be greatly missed."
