LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Transit officials in the Logan area say the purchase of five new buses should improve reliability by providing backups for breakdowns.
Cache Valley Transit District General Manager Todd Beutler says two of the new vehicles are 35-foot hybrid buses, and three are 40-foot commuters.
Beutler tells the Herald Journal of Logan the purchase brings the fleet to 32 vehicles.
Officials say the clean diesel electrical propulsion hybrids should help reduce air pollution emissions, save on fuel and run quieter than conventional buses.
Beutler says they're going to be used in hilly and low-speed areas near Utah State University and Logan's Cliffside neighborhood.
The other buses have a higher seating capacity. They'll be used mainly for the Cache Valley north and south routes and service to Idaho.
