MIDVALE — Police arrested two men following a short chase overnight. Officers believe one of the people arrested was ready to shoot at police.

Narcotics investigators were tracking the car of Lane Porter late Thursday night, according to Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department. They tried to pull the car over around 11:20 p.m.

The car fled but then was stopped about a block away. Three people inside the vehicle jumped out near 7200 South and 400 East in Midvale.

"They always have fled from police. Every time that we've tried to stop them they flee, without regard to public safety or law enforcement safety. They will always flee," Bell said.

Porter ran into the path of an officer's pickup truck and was hit, Bell said. Porter was taken to a hospital with a head injury and was in stable condition. Bell said if Porter had not run into the officer's vehicle, he likely would have started a shootout with police.

"By that happening, it probably saved his life, the officer's life; I don't know who else," Bell said.

Porter was holding a loaded gun when he fled, according to Bell, and "all he had to do was pull the trigger."

Police arrested another man who was in the car, Michael Tisdale.

A third person is still on the run, according to police. They identify him as Jayce Fiaui-Kane and say he is known to be armed and dangerous.

"This group has been a major thorn in our sides as an agency and in law enforcement for several months," Bell said.

Police found meth and heroin inside the car, according to Bell.
