SOUTH SALT LAKE — One woman was killed and three people were critically injured Sunday in a head-on collision, officials said.

South Sale Lake City Police executive officer Gary Keller said the accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. at 3300 South and West Temple. He said a red Cadillac crossed the median and struck a blue Hyundai that was stopped at the intersection.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 26-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, Keller said. She was traveling with a 50-year-old woman who was transported to an area hospital in extremely critical condition.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 16-year-old girl, and a 19-year-old male passenger were also transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Keller said the driver of the Cadillac was not wearing a seat belt, which likely contributed to the severity of her injuries. The other three injured individuals were all wearing seat belts.

Traffic was shut down on 3300 South between 300 West and Main Street but was expected to be reopened Sunday night.
