MEADOW, Millard County — A woman was killed and a man was injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed, closing a section of southbound I-15 for several hours Friday afternoon, police said.

A man and woman were riding a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle at about 12:13 p.m., traveling south on the interstate at a high rate of speed, according to officials from the Utah Highway Patrol. As the motorcycle passed exit 158 near Meadow, the driver and passenger encountered a dip in the roadway. The motorcycle began wobbling and then tipped to its side and skidded to a stop, according to UHP. Both people fell off from the motorcycle, and neither was wearing a helmet, UHP officials said.

The woman, Randi L. Mahas, 36, of Ogden, was a passenger and suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, 37-years-old, of Farr West was driving the motorcycle, and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Fillmore. He was later flown to Utah Valley Hospital by medical helicopter. UHP officials did not disclose the man's identity or condition.

The crash closed southbound I-15 in the area for about three hours and traffic was diverted at Kanosh. The freeway reopened at about 3:20 p.m.

The closure reached from about 10 miles north of Cove Fort to about 8 miles south of Fillmore.
