COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State University is renaming one of its major campus streets in honor of John Glenn and his wife, Annie.

The university in Columbus says 17th Avenue, which crosses the heart of campus, will be renamed "Annie & John Glenn Avenue." A committee of OSU's board of trustees approved the resolution Thursday, and the full board is set to vote on it Friday. New signs will go up after that.

The 94-year-old former U.S. senator and astronaut has strong ties to Ohio State, as does his wife, a longtime advocate for people with communication disorders.

John Glenn told trustees Thursday he was honored, and he hopes students "will see the sign that's named after us and realize a lot of things come down the road."
