RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The University of Richmond will spend $2.5 million a year to fund internships or research opportunities for all its full-time undergraduate students beginning next summer.
President Edward L. Ayers announced the program Friday, saying it will give students an edge in the highly competitive job market. Ayers told the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1CRDorl ) that the private university expects to fund about 600 positions annually once fully operational.
The initiative will be bankrolled from money raised during its recent Campaign for Richmond.
Students must identify potential opportunities, and could be awarded up to $4,000.
Fellowships are now available but not guaranteed to all undergraduates. The new program expands on that.
