FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale has resigned after confessing to a "moral failing."
Leaders of the large church made the announcement Sunday to a crowd gathered for a special meeting.
A statement issued by the church says Bob Coy will be "focusing his full attention on his personal relationship with God and with his family." The church did not elaborate on the transgression and a spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking further details.
Coy has led the church since it was founded in 1985. The church announced that the media ministry that distributes Coy's popular Bible teaching through radio, television and digital media also has been suspended.
The Christian magazine Outreach says the church's more than 18,000 members make it the 14th-largest in the U.S.
