HARRISBURG, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department has reopened Lake Alvin to swimming after closing it earlier this month when tests showed unhealthy levels of E. coli in the water.
Jason Bauman, a district park supervisor for the department, tells the Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/28w2adR ) that the beach in Harrisburg reopened Wednesday after water samples taken Tuesday showed healthy levels of the bacteria.
The threshold to close the beach is when water levels test for more than 235 colonies per 100 milliliters per water. Bauman says the count was 13 colonies on Tuesday.
Lake Alvin's beach had been closed for swimming but open to fishing since June 3.
