BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Legislation to amend the state's constitution to expand the rights of crime victims and their families is headed to the Senate.
The Senate State Affairs Committee on Friday voted 8-1 to advance the proposal that would change Idaho's 1994 Victim Rights Amendment by requiring victims to be timely notified of court proceedings involving suspects.
Similar proposals have failed in the Legislature in previous years. But Republican Sen. Todd Lakey of Nampa said problems that included unclear language have been fixed.
