POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Attorneys are expected to make their closing arguments next week in a lawsuit brought by a former doctoral student against Idaho State University.
The Idaho State Journal reports Jun Yu filed the federal lawsuit in September 2015 alleging the school discriminated against him, committed ethics violation and breached a contract when it refused to grant him a doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Yu contends he completed four years of coursework and only needed to complete a clinical externship to receive the degree, but says the university refused to grant permission for him to do the externship at the Shanghai Medical Health Center in China, where he is from.
Yu had unsuccessfully attempted to complete required externships with Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
ISU has denied the allegations and Yu's former professor has noted that Yu was under a remediation plan before he was dismissed from the program.
