Have You Seen This? Angler hand-feeds hungry owl

THE GREAT OUTDOORS — Owls are among the most enigmatic birds around. You might hear them hooting at night or see their moonlit silhouettes in your trees, but it's not very often you get up close and personal with them.

My only face-to-face experience with an owl happened earlier this year. I'd been at Zion National Park a few days with my friend, Micah, and we were driving home.

On a rural highway I noticed a strange object stuck to a barbed wire fence. We pulled over to investigate and discovered that it was a great horned owl. The poor thing must have been flying at night and gotten its wings snagged in the barbed wire.

We realized that we could easily injure the bird if we tried to free it ourselves, so we called the police. They put us in touch with an animal expert who came out and freed the majestic owl.

I'll never forget that incredible encounter. And I was actually thinking of that owl when I saw this video:

I have no idea how the angler even figured out that the owl would take the fish from his hand. But the man seemed to have great form and it's amazing to see the bird swoop down and take that fish.

If nothing else, it's a reminder that owls are some of the coolest birds around and we should take care of them every chance we get.
