LAS VEGAS (AP) — State officials say Nevada's taxable sales rose nearly 5 percent in October compared with the same month a year ago, largely thanks to more spending at restaurants and car dealerships.
The Nevada Department of Taxation reported Monday that taxable sales totaled $4.1 billion. The state collected about $320 million in taxes for the off those sales. That's an increase of 8 percent year-over-year.
Bar and restaurant sales of $924 million were up almost 8 percent in October, while spending at car and parts dealers rose 9 percent to $453 million. Those two categories account for the largest share of sales in Nevada.
Twelve of the state's 17 counties saw their sales rise. The numbers dropped for Eureka, Humboldt, Mineral, Nye and Pershing counties.
