LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities have identified a 31-year-old Las Vegas man shot and killed in an argument over a gambling game at a weekly rental motel as Androples Lewis. The Clark County coroner's office says Lewis died of multiple gunshots. Police say they're looking for a black man in his 20s with long dreadlocks and gaps in his front teeth in the shooting about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a bill to ease a ban on wineries in two counties. The Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee held a hearing yesterday for AB4. The bill would repeal a state law prohibiting wineries in Clark and Washoe counties from importing wine from other states or serving alcoholic beverages on their premises.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada could soon have a need-based grant program to help its graduates pay for college. Lawmakers reviewed SB227 in the Senate Education Committee yesterday. The bill would create the Silver State Opportunity Grant Program and provide it with $5 million each of the next two years. It would be separate from the merit-based Millennium Scholarship.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Senate committee has passed a Republican bill that would restrict people convicted of domestic violence from having a gun, but would also broaden the definition of justifiable homicide. SB175 passed unanimously yesterday and heads to the Senate floor. The bill would prohibit a person from owning a gun if they've been convicted of domestic violence, or purchasing one if there's a restraining order filed against them.
