Fattah Statement on Dedication of John Edward Porter Neuroscience

Research Center

WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman

Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations

Committee and architect of the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative,

attended the dedication ceremony for the John Edward Porter

Neuroscience Research Center at the National Institutes of Health

(NIH) today. He released the following statement:

"It is an honor to join the National Institutes of Health (NIH),

fellow Members of Congress, and leaders across the research community

today at the dedication of the John Edward Porter Neuroscience

Research Center. I had the pleasure of serving with John on the House

Appropriations Committee, where under his leadership we worked

together to double NIH's budget. This historic funding increase under

his Subcommittee Chairmanship allowed for medical breakthroughs and

technologies that have saved countless lives and advanced the field of

medicine and scientific research forever.

"Outside of Congress, John has continued his commitment and advocacy

to health research and innovation. This beautiful, new facility named

in his honor will allow for collaborations from scientists studying

every aspect of the brain, enhancing our understanding of

neuroscience. There could not be a more fitting tribute to a leader

who has worked his entire career to advance health and medical

research in this country."
