KEARNS -- A man who sparked a citywide manhunt that lasted nearly five hours now faces charges of aggravated murder.
The Unified Police Department arrested 26-year-old Joshua Montoya just after 10 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop in West Valley City. They say Montoya shot and killed his ex-wife's boyfriend outside his Kearns home earlier in the day as the couple dropped off Montoya's kids for a visit.
Officers say it now appears Montoya shot 25-year-old Amos Pacheco because he'd heard Pacheco was talking behind his back.
"I think it's an absolute tragedy when somebody talking behind somebody's back ultimately ends up in a murder," said Unified police Lt. Don Hutson. "It just seems like there's a better resolution for those types of issues."
Montoya was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail facing charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and DUI.
Police say Montoya's children -- ages 9, 8 and 4 - were inside the house at the time of the shooting and did not see it happen.
