SALT LAKE CITY -- A legislative committee took another swipe at the federal government Tuesday. It passed a bill claiming eminent domain over some federal land in Utah.

Utah Democrats say they're sick of bills moving through the Legislature this session that intentionally flout the federal government.House Bill 143 would allow the state to take control over permits of oil, gas and mining leases, as well as the development of real estate where it is not allowed now. Amber Harrison, a Uinta County resident, agrees there's a need for the proposal. "Not only the oil and gas industry, but all of our mining industries in our state have taken a real hit because of federal jurisdiction over our lands," she said.
However, many say the bill would certainly trigger lawsuits with the federal government.
