SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Three months after a former University of Utah professor fell out of a campus shuttle and died, authorities have found no family and no one to claim her remains.
Sixty-three-year-old Zhilong Xie fell out of the shuttle's side rear doors as it turned a corner in November and died later from her injuries. At the time police said they believed her to originally be from Harban, China. They said she became a naturalized U.S. citizen and had lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Utah.
Officials say the body of Zhilong, who went by Diane, may eventually be cremated and laid to rest in a common vault.
University of Utah Police Detective Jack Fermanian says he's never seen a case like this one. And Sgt. Kent Curtis says it appears Zhilong was reclusive.
