SALT LAKE CITY -- A Layton man who admitted to setting free hundreds of minks will spend time behind bars.
William Viehl pleaded guilty last September to a federal charge of damage and interference with animal enterprise.
Investigators say in August of 2009, Viehl and Alex Hall opened hundreds of pens and destroyed breeding records at the McMullin Mink Farm in South Jordan.
On Thursday a judge sentenced Viehl to serve 24 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release and to pay a $67,000 fine.
Hall pleaded not guilty. His trial starts in April.
