WEST JORDAN -- A man showed up at a West Jordan hospital Wednesday morning after being severely beaten. Police are trying to figure out who is responsible for the assault.

Officers said the 40-year-old victim tried to drive himself to the Jordan Valley Medical Center emergency room around 2:30 a.m., but because of the severity of his injuries he was unable to make it on his own. He called a friend to drive him the rest of the way.

Police said the beating took place at this home near 5000 West and 7500 South in West Jordan.

Once at the hospital, police said the man told emergency room doctors he had been assaulted.

"There are significant injuries. He's been sedated by the hospital and he is still in that condition," said Sgt. Drew Sanders with the West Jordan Police Department.

Police said the beating took place at a home near 5000 West and 7500 South in West Jordan. They said several people were involved, and it appears they used some sort of object, likely a baseball bat, in the attack. They said they are hoping the victim will be able to tell them more about what happened.

"We haven't been able to interview him because of his injuries, and we're getting conflicting stories on other persons that were at the home," Sanders said.

The owner of the home where the assault occurred told KSL she heard a scuffle in the living room and came out of her room to find her boyfriend and the victim fighting. She said there was a little bit of blood on the floor, but that it didn't appear anyone was seriously hurt.

She said she asked the victim several times if he was OK, but he left the house and drove away. The woman said it didn't appear the victim had been beaten when she saw him Wednesday morning. In fact, she said it came as a shock when police showed up saying that he was in the hospital.

Police wouldn't say if the woman's boyfriend is their primary suspect in the beating, but said they are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for someone they believe is involved.
