SALT LAKE CITY -- Two Utah newspapers are fighting to have court documents related to the murder of Millard County Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox unsealed.
Prosecutors have asked the judge in the case to seal nine search warrant affidavits related to the case against Fox's alleged killer, Roberto Miramontes Roman. A lawyer representing the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News says the public has a right to view pretrial criminal proceedings and records.
However, prosecutors counter the release of the documents could hinder the case against Roman.
Fox was shot and killed Jan. 5 after a traffic stop outside of Delta. Roman was arrested one day later in Beaver.
He could face the death penalty if convicted.
