A recent KSL Editorial spoke positively of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s plan to “fast track” the approval process for a new airport in St. George. Based on responses we received, not everyone sees the need for a replacement airport.

Phil Wagner, a pilot from Porterville wrote:

“I suggest the movement to relocate the airport is driven by developers looking at the present St. George Airport site as a waste of prime real estate when half million dollar homes or more could be built on that same bench overlooking the valley. It has little or nothing to do with providing better air transportation to the area.”

Kolin Vance of Fruit Heights sounded a similar theme in his response:

“As usual what was a very convenient airport situated close to business is losing out to developer interests. This has little to do with expansion and a lot to do with putting luxury housing on a prime piece of real estate. What was a nice flight and a walk to a restaurant and place to stay will be turned into a major connection now to conduct business.”

KSL appreciates the perspective provided by Mr. Wagner and Mr. Vance. As always, a more complete text of their comments can be found on our website at www.ksl.com.
