SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State environmental officials are advising northern Utah residents to avoid unnecessary driving and burning.
The Utah Department of Environmental Quality called a yellow air alert for Salt Lake, Davis, Utah and Weber Counties for Tuesday. That means the air quality is bad enough that the DEQ is calling for voluntary reductions in wood burning and driving.
It's one level short of a red alert, which means wood burning in prohibited. When the quality is as low as yellow or red, the DEQ asks people to conserve on their driving and keep the amount of auto pollution to a minimum.
