WEST VALLEY CITY -- A man who led police on a chase faces charges of attempted murder for trying to run over three officers.

Police tried to stop Michael Patterson in West Valley City on Tuesday because he was driving a stolen truck. During a subsequent chase, police say he deliberately swerved toward three officers laying spike strips on the ground.

Patterson missed the officers and later crashed the truck into a ditch.

On Friday prosecutors charged him with several crimes, including three counts of attempted aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers said they found a semi-automatic handgun with three loaded clips in the truck Patterson was driving. He had two warrants out for his arrest, both for theft.
