SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A measure that would have required kids ages 5 to 8 to sit in a booster car seat while riding in a vehicle has been rejected by the House.
The bill's sponsor says kids in that age group don't always fit well in seat belts and often suffer neck injuries in car wrecks. He says 43 small children have been killed in the past few years in such crashes.
However, several House members opposed the measure. Some claiming the bill could lead to good people breaking the law. The bill died 38-to-31.
