OREM -- Utah Highway Patrol troopers caught 24-year-old Bradlee Kalkbrenner after he led them on a chase that lasted 33 minutes. It began at the north end of Utah County and ended on the streets of Orem early this morning. They say Kalkbrenner was under the influence of meth, and was wanted on burglary and theft charges.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Brent Shelby tried to pull Kalkbrenner for a traffic violation in Lehi around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Kalkbrenner refused to pull over. He got on Interstate 15 and started heading south. He sped away and got off of the freeway at University Parkway and began leading officers on a chase through the streets of Orem.
Orem officers also got involved and, eventually, with the use of road spikes were able to stop and arrest the suspect.
Shelby explained, "Orem joined the pursuit towards the end and were able to successfully spike the tires, the right two tires, and disable the vehicle on the right side."
Shelby went on to say, "It was a felony stop, ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint and brought him out, and had to clear the vehicle and the individual, and took him into custody at that point."
When officers got into his car, they found burglary tools and found the license plates were stolen.
Investigators say it's possible the SUV he was driving was stolen as well.
Kalkbrenner was booked into the Utah County jail on a long list of charges, including evading, DUI, possession of methamphetamine, forgery and two outstanding warrants.
Incidentally, he was arrested in June for burglary and theft, and released from jail at the end of July. That case against him is still pending.
