SANDY -- The Canyons School District did a Dan Jones survey and found it has a 68 percent approval rating. Results of the survey were released in the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night.
"Two-thirds are satisfied or very satisfied with how things are going," said Canyons associate director of communications Jeff Haney.
Haney says they found out how people voted in November 2007. Fifty-five percent voted to create the new district, 22 percent opposed it. "Ten percent said they couldn't recall how they voted, and 13 percent said they didn't vote," he said.
The split became official this past July. The survey asked what people want to see as the district moves forward. Haney says most respondents asked for smaller class sizes and more parental involvement. Some were worried about the cost it took to split from Jordan.
The survey also asked people to rank the academic programs in their schools on a scale of one to five, with one being the lowest rating. The high schools got a 3.98, elementary schools got a 3.8, and middle schools were given a 3.5 by the survey respondents.
