SEATTLE, Jan 4, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A plasticized human kidney acquired in China was stolen from the "Bodies" exhibit in Seattle.

The kidney was one of two that visitors were allowed to touch. Investigators believe that someone pocketed the organ while the docent at the exhibit was looking in another direction, the Seattle Times reported.

"Bodies," which remains in Seattle through April, is one of several displays that exhibit human bodies or parts. Organizers told the Times this is the first time anything has been stolen since the show opened in London in 2004.

From now on, visitors will only be able to handle one organ.

Police are going through security tapes, trying to determine which of the 5,000 people who toured "Bodies" on Saturday made off with the kidney, the newspaper said.
