On one memorable hunting trip, Travis Tams listened to his father express his desire to start his own business. The day after that hunting trip, Travis's father was killed in a tragic car accident.
After his father's death, it became Travis' dream to start his own contracting company in honor of his father. In 1996, his dream came to fruition with the launch of Bridgerland Builders.
Today, Pleasant View-based Bridgerland Builders is a well-known custom residential home builder. Travis specializes in personalized customer service and making sure clients are pleased with the final product. He is also a hands-on builder who works on site every day to supervise the building process and help with the work himself.
While Travis takes care of building, his wife, Yvonne, manages the office, keeps books, handles payroll and performs much of the accounting work. Four years ago, Yvonne and Travis decided that instead of hiring a realtor to sell the completed homes and to assist clients purchasing one of their homes they would do it themselves. Yvonne earned both her realtor and broker licenses so she could help clients with real estate transactions. It has been a wise decision.
Yvonne tells me Travis is a master woodworker and specializes in providing custom products such as mantels, entertainment walls and rough-cut timbers in the roof system. He's meticulous in the completion of his work, doing everything possible to ensure the client is satisfied with the finished product.
Bridgerland Builders has built homes in Cache, Weber, Davis and Morgan counties. The secret to the company's success has been to take a conservative business approach and grow slowly. Travis' high moral character has also been an important selling point.
