UTAH COUNTY -- Parents for kids entering the seventh grade and kindergarten don't have much time left to get their kids immunized before school starts.
Utah County Health Department spokesman Lance Madigan said, "Every once in a while, in our busy lives, people just need little reminders."
Madigan says children in kindergarten need to begin a series of 12 immunizations, including diphtheria, polio and hepatitis A and B. Seventh-graders need the T-dap booster, varicella (chickenpox) and the hepatitis B series.
"As long as the children have had at least one of the series to start with, we'll let them go ahead and start school," Madigan said. "But if they haven't gotten any of them, then they get exempt until they get those."
Madigan says parents of children without a complete series of immunizations will be called and reminded to have the series completed.
