SANDY -- A single-car accident on I-15 brought traffic to a halt and left troopers looking for the driver.
Troopers say a man driving a stolen SUV, pulling a stolen trailer, crashed around 11600 South. The driver then took off into a nearby construction zone.
Several police agencies and a K-9 unit searched for the man, but the dogs lost the scent.
The accident slowed traffic for some time. A family stuck in the traffic looked at the accident as they passed and recognized the trailer.
"We were just driving by to go to Salt Lake, stuck in traffic, and we got right by it and my husband was like, 'That's our trailer,'" Angie Baughman said.
The family said they didn't even know the trailer had been stolen. As for the car, officials don't know who it belongs to.
Inside the car troopers found a BB gun and a wig. Authorities don't know why the man ran, but the items found in the car give them reason for concern.
Witnesses described the driver of the vehicle as a heavyset, white male in his 30s.
