WEST VALLEY CITY -- West Valley City police arrested a motorist who tried to run from them Saturday morning.
Police say an officer spotted a man driving through West Valley City with a broken car window around 9:45 Saturday morning. The man made a traffic violation, and then the officer tried to pull him over. The motorist sped off instead, leading officers on a city-wide chase.
Police spiked the car's tires near 4100 West and 3100 South. The suspect's vehicle rolled to a stop, and the driver got out and tried to run from police. Officers caught and arrested him.
Police say they found a gun and methamphetamine inside the car.
"Having a gun and drugs inside of a car constitutes a federal offense," said Lt. Bill Merritt of the West Valley City Police Department. "This particular person is going to be charged with a federal offense."
The suspect is now in jail. Police are still trying to confirm his identity and where he's from.
