PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A woman has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in a crash that killed her 9-month old grandson.
A judge sentenced 37-year-old Doris Licona to probation, counseling and 160 hours of community service.
Licona was driving on Interstate 15 near Payson when she fell asleep and her car rolled in March. Her grandson, who was riding on his mother's lap and not in a car seat, was killed.
The mother, Michelle Nuila, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment. She was also sentenced to probation, counseling and 120 hours of community service.
Licona is training to become a spokeswoman to share her story with PTA groups and parent classes as part of her community service. She says her daughter was pregnant at the time of the accident and plans to name the child Jonathan, after his late brother.
